The Resplendent Farming Apothecary - Chapter 103 - Revival (3)
Noticing that his granddaughter didn’t like that much, Gu Xiao scratched his head and said, “But this is the only one that looked like it’d be suitable for a young girl. It has bridge colors and the cotton inside is soft and thick. It’d be warm on you. Let’s get this for now, and get you a better set when we have a chance to visit Yan.”
The workers at the clothing shop pursed their lips from one side and looked at the grandfather and granddaughter with a look of contempt. Even though both of their sets were new, but both the fabric and their style couldn’t be more common. If it wasn’t that Gu Xiao had a majestic look on him, they would have said something to mock them already.
“Grandpa, I think we should just buy cotton and fabric and have Ninth Aunty help us make them.” Gu Ye really didn’t want to put on the set of very out-of-style cotton outfit. She’d feel like a fool.
“My little money-grubber, I don’t need you to pay for them. Grandpa will buy them for you! Hey you, wrap this set up!” Gu Xiao didn’t ask any further before he made the decision.
Gu Ye wished she could cry. Alright, a fool she would be. If only just to entertain her grandpa.
The two of them went back to the herbal market and bought 4 baskets of raw herbs. ‘Lo and behold, being an apothecary was a pretty lucrative career. The four baskets of raw herbs close less than 5 taels while their processed medicinal herbs sold for over 10x that amount.
When the two of them arrived back at the inn, Landlord Ding’s son was already waiting there with lots of gifts. As soon as Gu Xiao grandfather and granddaughter stepped foot into the inn, the servant immediately said, “Young Master, these two were the sacred doctors who saved Master’s life. Even Dr. Li from Jimin Hall was raving about their technique and how they were able to bring Master back to life!”

The 20-something year old, slightly chubby Young Master Ding immediately took a step up and, with a very appreciative look, said, “Thank you, the two sacred doctors who had saved my father. Please accept my bow.”
Gu Xiao saw that his granddaughter was hiding behind him and didn’t seem to want anything to do with this so he helped Young Master up and said humbly, “We are not sacred doctors, it was just some technique that was passed on down in our family and your father happened to have the same symptoms. It was his luck more than anything else.”
“Regardless, we are still appreciative that the two of you stepped in and helped during the time of need. We have some small gifts here, please accept them.” Young Master Ding gestured his servants behind him and they brought up the gifts.
There were two rolls of cotton fabric, four boxes of delicate sweets, half a rack of pork, and a platter of silver summing up to 100 taels. The Ding’s was a big family in town who owned more than half of the fields nearby. They also owned a dozen or so shops in town, 100 taels really were not a lot of money to them.
“From now on, if there is anything that my family can do for you, please just let us know. We will do everything that we can to help.” Doctors were well-respected everywhere that they went. After all, any one who was living and breathing would get sick one day. Befriending a good doctor was the same as having another layer of assurance on one’s life.
Master Ding wasn’t the only Ding’s family member who had heart problems. Young Master Ding’s grandfather also died from cardiac arrest, at the young age of 43. Landlord Ding was not even 50 yet and each time he experienced heart issue it was worse than the last. There was no saying whether he could make it to his 50th birthday. Young Master Ding himself has also noticed symptoms such as tightness of chest and palpitation, which were the same symptoms that his father had exhibited at the early stage.
If the grandfather/granddaughter pair in front of him could bring his father back from death, perhaps they would have prescriptions that could alleviate their heart symptoms as well.
