Brushing Su Xiaomo’s hand off with a feigned calmness, He Jiayu said in resignation, “Su Xiaomo… restrain yourself.”
Su Xiaomo, on the other hand, was off her leash. She cried out happily, “Cutie He!”
He Jiayu cleared his throat. “Please don’t call me that.”
“It’s a pretty name!” Su Xiaomo beamed at him. “Cutie He! Cutie He!”
Good-natured as he was, He Jiayu wasn’t about to say anything harsh. As a result, Su Xiaomo followed him around and called him by his new nickname happily.
Su Xiaomo was thirsty after they got back to the classroom. She went to fill her cup at the water cooler, only to find it empty.
Removing the empty bottle on the top, she picked up a fresh 5-litre one.
The others in the classroom were baffled. “Shit! Brother Mo, don’t you think that’s your boyfriend’s job?”
Su Xiaomo picked up the bottle with much difficulty and said quietly, “Do I look like I need a boyfriend?”
He Jiayu narrowed his eyes. The next second, he snatched the bottle from Su Xiaomo’s hands.
He easily set the bottle, which was a little too heavy for Su Xiaomo, onto the water cooler.
“There’s no need to act tougher than you really are,” He Jiayu said in a voice only loud enough for the two of them to hear.
Su Xiaomo bit her lip involuntarily.
Because of her personality and physical strength, everyone saw her as this tough girl.
With enough time, they even ignored the fact that she was a girl, and treated her as a guy.
He Jiayu was the only one who thought of her as a girl who could use some help.
She was overwhelmed by a tender feeling which felt sweeter than honey.
Su Xiaomo sat back down in her seat and couldn’t stop giggling into her hands.
He Jiayu found that rather strange. “Are you alright?”
Fearing that he mind detect her infatuation, Su Xiaomo coughed and said, “It’s nothing. I’m a little unwell…”
He Jiayu frowned. “I’m taking you to the infirmary!”
“No, I’m fine! Really!”
Su Xiaomo declined repeatedly and He Jiayu didn’t press her. However, he quietly followed Su Xiaomo on her way back home after school.
Back then, he was still a member of Starry Night and the center of the spotlight. He only managed to follow Su Xiaomo a few steps before he was surrounded by girls who tried to stuff love letters and gifts into his hands.
Some were too shy to interact with He Jiayu directly and tried to get Su Xiaomo to help instead.
“Hi, you’re He Jiayu’s deskmate, right? Can you give him this letter for me, please?” a short-haired girl asked shyly.
Su Xiaomo said coldly, “No.”
The short-haired girl fell silent.
“Hi, this is for you!” Another girl was apparently smarter than the first one. She gave Su Xiaomo a box of chocolates first, then took out a bigger box. “And… this is for He Jiayu…” She tugged at the lower hem of her clothes.
Su Xiaomo snapped, “Forget it!”
The girl was taken aback. She then mumbled, “Who the hell do you think you are? Fine, don’t help me! I bet no boy would like a mean girl like you!”
Su Xiaomo was hurt. “Says who?!”
Looking around, Su Xiaomo saw no guys around. Unwilling for her self-esteem to take a blow, she pointed at He Jiayu. “He likes me!”
“Hahaha…” The other two girls laughed loudly. “Gosh, you’ve got to be kidding me! You certainly don’t know yourself well enough and you’re imagining things. That’s just gross…”
He Jiayu suddenly turned to them and smiled at Su Xiaomo. “That’s right. I do like you a lot.”
Those words wiped the smiles off the two girls’ faces right away.
