“Mom, do you think I’m a piglet?” Liuli teased, reflecting on how she had sneaked out in the afternoon and hadn’t slept at all.
After the meal, she did feel a bit tired. However, the living room was bustling with activity as everyone prepared for her wedding the next day. It felt strange for her to go to bed alone.
But then again, she had sneaked out in the afternoon and lost track of time. She couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed.
“Go to bed early, or you won’t be able to wake up tomorrow morning,” advised Lin Yu.
“No, what day is it tomorrow? I can stay up all night and still be motivated!” Liuli replied with a smile.
“You’re shameless. If you really can’t fall asleep, go talk to your Grandma. Just make sure you’re in bed by 10 a.m.,” scolded Lin Yu, giving Liuli a stern look.
“Yes, Mom!’’ Liuli responded, sticking out her tongue playfully.
Though she sounded excited, in truth, she didn’t feel excited at all.
She made her way towards Grandma’s room, knocking lightly on the door before pushing it open.
“Grandma…”
“Liuli, come and have a seat!” Grandma looked up and greeted Liuli with a warm smile.
“Grandma, what are you busy with?” Liuli inquired.
“Oh, nothing much, just organizing the things you’ll be taking tomorrow,” Grandma replied.
“Grandma, I’m getting married tomorrow. Will you miss me?” Liuli playfully asked.
“Of course, my dear, but girls have to get married,” Grandma lamented.
“Well, actually, I could have Mr. Tang come here too!” Liuli suggested, a mischievous smile on her face.
“Who are you saying?” Grandma asked in confusion.
“Brother Jingxing!” Liuli smiled.
“You are still joking at this moment?”
Jingxing was the only son in the Tang family.
“They are doing this for our sake.” Grandma Yu smiled.
“But I am the only girl in our family!”
“How could I be married off then?!”
“Liuli, you are getting married, so you are not coming home to visit mom, dad and grandma?”
“Of course 1 will come back to visit you all!” Liuli protested.
“So when you get married, you still come home to visit mom, dad and grandma as before, right?” Grandma patted Liuli’s hands and said.
Liuli nodded and smiled.
Actually, she could also say that if it had been Mr. Tang who moved into their family, he could also visit Grandpa Tang at home often!
But that was just a joke, and she did not want to take it seriously.
Also, she was getting married the following day, and it was totally useless to argue about this right now.
Liuli changed the topic and started a different conversation with Grandma, hoping to lift her spirits.
As they chatted, both of them laughed happily, enjoying their time together.
Eventually, Grandma advised Liuli to go to bed early, knowing she would have a busy day ahead and needed to rest.
Liuli agreed and also requested Grandma to get a good night’s sleep. She assured her that she would visit home frequently after getting married.
She wanted to reassure Grandma that she shouldn’t miss her too much and that she needed to take good care of herself.
Feeling a growing discomfort by the end of the conversation, Liuli hurriedly left Grandma’s room and went upstairs to her own bedroom, hoping to find some solace in sleep.
Upon returning to her room, Liuli realized she felt tired, especially since she hadn’t engaged in a chat with Grandma.
However, after the conversation with Grandma, she didn’t feel sleepy at all. Instead, she felt an intense sense of discomfort washing over her.
She couldn’t help but ponder, “How did 1 end up feeling like this?”
Nothing had changed, and tomorrow was just a formality. Liuli repeated these words in her mind, trying to console herself as she lay in bed, unable to fall asleep.
Eventually, she managed to drift off to sleep.
However, her sleep was short-lived as she was awakened by her mom’s gentle voice.
Her mom being gentle? It caught Liuli off guard. She quickly sat up and looked at her mom, who was sitting by her bedside with a gentle expression.
“What’s the matter, Mom?” Liuli asked, slightly confused.
“It’s time to wake up and get ready,” Lin Yu replied, her gaze fixed on Liuli.
Liuli, still feeling drowsy, asked, “What time is it? Do we have to get up now?”
She longed to sleep a little longer; she was so sleepy.
“Don’t go back to sleep. It’s already 6:30 AM. You need to get dressed, put on makeup, and pay respects to our ancestors. It will keep you busy,” Lin Yu said, gently stroking Liuli’s hair.
“Mom, can I sleep for just half an hour? No, 15 minutes will do,” Liuli pleaded.
“Don’t sleep, I’ve made something delicious for you. Just get up and have it,” Lin Yu replied, her voice hoarse.
Only then did Liuli notice the tears welling up in her mom’s eyes.
“Mom, please don’t miss me too much. I’m just getting married; it’s not like I’ll never come home again.”
“If you don’t talk with me, I will feel even worse.” Liuli said as she put her arms around her mom’s shoulders.
“I am not saddened. You are so naughty, I should marry you off as soon as possible.”
“Get up and get ready. I am waiting for you downstairs. Don’t fall alseep again.”
“Or I will have to come and get you later!”
“Got it, Mom!” Liuli answered.
She felt a bit suffocated.
She would not fall alseep even if she got the chance to.
Liuli lifted the blanket, got off the bed and went into the bathroom to wash up.
Then she got changed and walked out of the room.
She saw her father in the living room on the second floor.
He was smoking and thinking about something. He looked tired. “Dad…”Liuli said.
Yu Zhiyuan turned around and put out the cigarette at the sight of his daughter..
