Sweet Chief Secretary - Chapter 544 - Almost Made It!
“Miss Xia cooks way better than that Filipino maid. I suggest that Miss Xia keeps cooking later.” The daughter of a prestigious cook really deserved that fame. Brother Hu’s mouth was laden with oil.
Chen Wenxuan was originally in a bad mood and got even more reluctant to have the meal after seeing what Brother Hu looked like while eating. He said aloof aside, “Is she your maid?”
Brother Hu was irritated by what he said, snapped the table and stood up, “Chen Wenxuan, stop putting on that face. I work with you and my fellows are at your use. Why can’t your girl cook for me?”
“Auntie, I’m scared!” Cheng Xi had always been afraid of Brother Hu and his people. Now seeing them fight in the middle of eating, he was so intimidated that he hid behind Xia Yu.
“Take it easy.” Xia Yu carried him upstairs, ignoring them.
“Auntie, I think they are bad. Instead of wanting to marry you, they kidnapped you!” Cheng Xi said in a low voice in the room upstairs.
“Don’t say that.” Xia Yu looked at him in agitation, “Where did you hear that?”

“It’s all on TV. Otherwise why are you going to marry that man when you are happy with Uncle Shen?” Though he was young, Cheng Xi understood a bit after staying with them for these days.
“Don’t tell anyone, understand? Or else they will lock us up!” Xia Yu whispered to Cheng Xi.
Cheng Xi was so terrified that he immediately covered his mouth, nodding in horror.
Xia Yu held him to her, “Don’t panic. I will be there protecting you.”
After it became quiet downstairs, Xia Yu assumed that they had ended the quarrel and returned to their bedrooms. Glancing over the clock, Xia Yu started to estimate the time when Chen Wenxuan would show symptoms.
That red fruit was tiny, and its toxicity might abate when it’s eaten with other food. So Xia Yu added much garlic and chilli in the braised crab since she knew Chen Wenxuan could not bear those ingredients.
Therefore he would not have that crab which might mitigate the fruit’s toxicity. It’s estimated that the toxicity started to work and his stomach began to twist.
She hit it! At the second, Chen Wenxuan felt sick anyhow, feeling headache more than stomachache. He assumed he caught a cold so he took several pills. But he didn’t get any better, but became worse.
He could only ask Brother Hu to come by, “It seemed that I’m poisoned. How do you feel?”
Chen Wenxuan was so shrewd that he soon reacted that it was Xia Yu who did something to their meal so as to threaten them.
It was Chen Wenxuan who knew Xia Yu the best. At first Brother Hu was nervous, but after pondering for a while, he thought as they had the meal together, if she poisoned, then she herself would not be spared.
Chen Wenxuan seemed to know what Brother Hu was thinking so he said, “She might have had the antidote.”
Hearing the plausible explanation, Brother Hu said to a brother aside, “Go grab Xia Yu here.”
“Brother Hu, I think Chen Wenxuan is just not acclimatized. If he were poisoned, you would not be well now, right?” A little guy said aside.
Brother Hu touched his head and glanced that guy, smashing him, “How come you are so smart? Do you think I don’t know?”
Then Xia Yu came over, asked what happened, looked outside the window, finding it had been dark, and frowned, “Shall we go to the doctor? Otherwise you would get even worse.”
Xia Yu tried to persuade him and was very stiff with apprehension. She even felt her heart twisted so she kept praying that they would agree.
“Xia Yu, don’t tell me you have nothing to do with it.” Chen Wenxuan stared at Xia Yu.
“Chen Wenxuan, you are insane! You are just sick. Don’t suspect Xia Yu. Will you doubt I conspired with him, having had the antidote as well.” Brother Hu had been well until then so he started to satirize him.
Then he was more or less remorseful that he worked with Chen Wenxuan, for he thought the man was so crazy that he was almost driven crazy by him.
“You know that’s not what I mean.” Chen Wenxuan just took a guess but unexpectedly caused Brother Hu to complain. He didn’t want to escalate tension since they had got a beef on many issues.
“Don’t give a crap. It’s you who get sick and it’s up to you.” Brother had long been impatient with him so he turned to leave.
Xia Wenxuan followed Brother Hu but heard at the door, “Even you are leaving me alone?”
She paused and turned around, “I don’t wanna get involved. If I’m the only person who stays with you, I would not be innocent once you insisted on having been hurt by me.”
“That’s it! Miss Xia, leave him alone and take a rest in your room.” Brother echoed aside.
“Brother Hu, could you please call the helicopter to send me to hospital. Xia Yu, you must be there.” At this time, it’s his life that really mattered.
“Let’s make it clear first. A helicopter is very expensive to rent and you’d better think about it.” They only got 50 billion bucks that Shen Yan gave them and not much left after renting the house. If Chen Wenxuan were so extravagant with the money, not even one buck would be left not until he married Xia Yu.
“I did my maths. Go do preps.” Chen Wenxuan glanced at Xia Yu, whom he deemed as the source of money.
Brother Hu left relentlessly. Xia Yu, after witnessing the scene, thought it might work if she had a talk with Brother Hu.
“It’s windy at night. Go grab an outfit for yourself.” Chen Wenxuan said to Xia Yu.
“I will see you downstairs. Now I’m going awaken the boy.” After gazing at him for a while, Xia Yu said and a few strides brought her away from the room.
“Not with the kid.” Chen Wenxuan frowned.
“Then I would not go.” Xia Yu said without a pause.
“Fine, do it quickly.” Chen Wenxuan felt so bad that he could only agree.
When Xia Yu left Cheng Xi’s room, he had fallen asleep. But when she opened it now, she heard a weep. So she hurried to the bedside and turned on the bedside lamp, finding Chen Xi weeping. Seeing Xia Yu, he paused and wiped his tears.
“Auntie!” He called Xia Yu in a coarse voice.
Xia Yu knew why he cried, so held him to her in distress and gently stroked his back, “I will bring you home.”
“Home?” Cheng Xi blinked his eyes, which emerged a glow of happiness after Xia Yu nodded.
Xia Yu carried him downstairs when Chen Wenxuan and Brother Hu were preparing the helicopter. They were jubilant at the thought of leaving here.
When she got on the helicopter with Cheng Xi, she couldn’t believe it so that she was quivering all the time, and she didn’t know whether she was excited or anxious. She pinched her thigh and felt a pang of pain, telling her it was not a dream. They were really going to leave the prison.
“Are you cold, auntie? You are quivering.” Cheng Xi was hugged by her and asked her in concern.
Xia Yu smiled, touched his head, and said she’s not cold.
Finally they took off. Seeing that isolated villa, she felt free from that prison.
She was only worried about whether she would have the chance to contact others and exposed what Chen Wenxuan was planning after arriving at the hospital. She kept praying secretly.
She heaved a sigh of relief when they got out of the island. She didn’t anticipate everything would happen as she planned. But at the same time she was uneasy, feeling something wrong but not being able to identify. She felt bad about that.
Cheng Xi gradually fell asleep in Xia Yu’s arms after a while of excitement. Xia Yu thought they must be far away from that island, after looking outside the cabin.
But they didn’t head for a public hospital that Xia Yu had imagined but a private clinic. Cheng Wenxuan and one fellow of Brother Hu’s got off while Brother Hu and another guy stayed supervising Xia Yu.
It seemed to be in vain. Xia Yu was disappointed but had no means to change it. She could only expect that Shen Yan came out of nowhere and saved them.
It only took half an hour before Chen Wenxuan returned. He ordered the pilot to drive.
Xia Yu’s heart sank when the helicopter started to ascend. Not long she found a ray of light amid darkness. Was it a lighthouse but not very likely.
A few minutes later that light became brighter so they were approaching there. When they got nearer and Xia Yu found that villa, Xia Yu became desperate suddenly.
Then Cheng Xi waked up, looking at Xia Yu confused. He called her and asked whether they had arrived home.
Xia Yu waved her head. As the helicopter approached the island, she became more desperate and terrified, weak against the seat, holding the kid tightly.
When they arrived, Xia Yu held the kid and grabbed the seat to struggle for the last time, shaking her head, “I won’t get off.”
“Xia Yu, it’s you.” Chen Wenxuan glared at her aloof for a while and ordered a fellow man, “Get her off.”
The man immediately went to get her hands off the seat and dragged them off the helicopter. Cheng Xi was so scared that he kept calling mom with a pale face.
After being brought back to the villa, Brother Hu whispered to her with compensation, “You shouldn’t have tried to escape.” After that, he ordered fellows to lock them up separately.
“Auntie, I want auntie!” Cheng Xi burst into tears.
“Don’t let us separate, separate, I beg you.” Xia Yu grabbed Brother Hu’s clothes and begged him with tears.
