Rebirth on the Doors to the Civil Affairs Bureau - Chapter 44
***
While this year’s celebration dinner wasn’t the most elaborate, this was something Yu Dong hadn’t experienced in a very long time, so it made her feel nostalgic.
The table only held a huge bowl of stewed chicken and some delicious braised fish on the side. With one glance Yu Dong could tell that these were her father’s creations.
“Dad, did you cook today?” Yu Dong knew that while her father was good at it, he doesn’t like cooking.
“We have Xia Feng to thank for this, Dad specially went out and bought some fresh fish for him.” Yu Song waggled his eyebrows at his sister.
“Cough!” Father Yu spluttered as he drank.
Xia Feng felt touched. He picked up his glass, poured some alcohol and stood up: “Thank you uncle, let me pour you a cup.”

“Don’t you get drunk easily?” Father Yu said.
“I’ll drink less.”
During the meal, Yu Song took the opportunity to fill Xia Feng’s cup with alcohol and Xia Feng accepted it one after the other. Although the food helped, after a few cups, the Xia Feng with such tiny alcohol tolerance became dazed.
Father Yu was obviously in a celebratory mood, and after a few more cups, became talkative.
“Xia Feng, you be good to my daughter.” Father Yu pointed towards Xia Feng.
“Uncle, you can be rest assured, I will properly be together with Yu Dong.” Xia Feng shook his head in an attempt to clear his dulled mind.
“Our family’s Dong Dong, not to boast, is the best in the village.” Father Yu started to count his fingers, “clever, filial and beautiful.”
“But not gentle!” Yu Song, who had also drunk a good amount of alcohol, butted in.
“You shut up!” Father Yu glared at his son.
“No, Yu Dong is a very gentle girl.” Xia Feng placed a hand on his chest and laughed, “Every time I see her, my heart warms.”
“I protected her for twenty-two years, and now she’s going to be in your family.” Father Yu said, somewhat unhappy.
“Uncle, I’ll be protecting her in the future.” Xia Feng patted his chest in assurance.
“Who’s protecting who, when my sister was a kid she was famous for being such a manly girl,” Yu Song raised his arms and imitated a boxer, “She ruled during her primary and middle school days, ah.”
“Alright!” Xia Feng had no idea what was said and could only laugh in response.
“Dong Dong, she’s always had a one-track mind. She would fiercely protect the people she cared about. Normally such a strong girl isn’t easy to hurt, ” Father Yu knew his daughter best, “But if its someone she cares about that hits her, she’ll just take the punches silently.”
“This uncle is always worrying that she’ll be bullied.”
“Uncle, you can be rest assured…in the future…from now on, she’ll have me.” Xia Feng valiantly tried to straighten in his seat, but in the end, he could only slump onto the table.
Father Yu smiled as he looked down at his son-in-law, it seems that he ended up on the table again.
“Dad!” Yu Dong had been silently sitting on the side. With tearful eyes, she looked at her loving father and sniffled.
Father Yu smiled, and as if she had reverted back to her childhood, he reached out to pat Yu Dong on the head.
This gentle hand brought tears to Yu Dong’s eyes.
“Hey, why are you crying?” The dazed Xia Feng looked up only to see Yu Dong’s tears. With his heart aching he reached out to wipe them away.
“Don’t cry, I just promised uncle that I’ll be protecting you now.” Xia Feng’s warm hand rubbed Yu Dong’s cheek as if he were coaxing a child.
At this Xia Feng relaxed and the alcohol seems to have taken its toll, because he then leaned against Yu Dong and dozed off.
When Mother Yu came out of the kitchen, she was met with the image of three drunk men on her table.
The morning of New Year’s Day.
Xia Feng was awakened by a ray of sunshine sneaking past the curtains. Opening his eyes, the first thing he sees is the soundly sleeping Yu Dong.
Their breaths mingling, foreheads touching, a soft waist between his arms.
Xia Feng looked at her long eyelashes and couldn’t help but gently kiss them.
Yu Dong’s eyelids trembled, then opened. A pair of beautiful eyes, their depths clear and bright, shot straight through Xia Feng’s heart.
“Good morning!” Xia Feng didn’t release her, instead, he inched closer as he smiled.
“Good morning!” Yu Dong responded with a sweet smile of her own.
Xia Feng blinked, then gently brought her closer to him. His body blocked the wisp of sunlight, shading Yu Dong’s face.
Yu Dong couldn’t help but close her eyes when she felt Xia Feng’s familiar lips. She could still taste the alcohol he had last night as he licked every inch of her mouth. From her lips to her teeth, to the inside of her mouth, his slightly higher temperature warmed her.
Xia Feng was like a tyrant, constantly attacking the city, and Yu Dong was utterly defeated.
The two only separated when they finally exhausted all their oxygen. A sliver of saliva bound them together, as if their lips were against them separating.
Xia Feng sighed as he loosed his grip. He started to smooth Yu Dong’s messy hair and softly said: “Happy New Year!”
“Happy New Year!” Yu Dong replied, her eyes avoiding him in embarrassment.
“I just thought of my New Year’s wish.” Xia Feng hugged Yu Dong to his chest and rested his chin on top of her head.
“What is it?” Yu Dong asked curiously.
“I wish that every time I wake up in the morning, the first thing I see will be you.”
At this, Yu Dong twisted and raised her head, looking into Xia Feng’s eyes. After giving him a sweet smile, she burrowed back into Xia Feng’s embrace.
The two lazed in bed for a while before eventually getting up.
On the morning of the new year, Xia Feng made several new discoveries. Father Yu accepted the cigarettes he bought, Yu Song took the watch given to him, and Mother Yu wore the new clothes Yu Dong gave her, took the vitamins Xia Feng bought and showed them off to the neighbors.
“Did I pass?” Xia Feng asked.
“Definitely.” Yu Dong laughed at this question/
“Ha ha…” Xia Feng smiled at this. “So when can we start the wedding preparations?”
“We’ll have to talk to my mother.” Yu Dong replied.
“And to my mom.” Xia Feng added. He took out his phone, eager to tell his own mother the good news.
With the new year, the spring festival would arrive soon. The mountains will be covered in green, heavy clothes would be replaced with lighter coats. On the fifth day of the new year, the two were ready to return to Shanghai.
Before they left, Mother Yu gave Xia Feng a red envelope, saying that it was a gift.
Xia Feng wanted to refuse but was stopped by Yu Dong.
Before they boarded the car, Xia Feng approached Father Yu and solemnly said: “Uncle, you can be rest assured, I remembered everything said that night.”
“Good!” Father Yu’s serious face finally smiled as he patted Xia Feng on the shoulder.
Father Yu looked lighthearted, but Xia Feng knew how hard it must be for his precious treasure to be taken from him.
Because most people usually leave on the sixth day, the roads were relatively empty. After eating lunch, the two made it back to Shanghai at around 10:00 p.m.
After more than twelve hours of non-stop driving, the first thing Yu Dong did when they got home was to jump onto the sofa.
When Xia Feng carried their luggage through the front door, he saw Yu Dong acting like a mollusk, curling her body on the sofa. With a laugh, he said: “You just said you were hungry.”
“Alright!” Yu Dong stood up and took her bags back to the second bedroom.
Xia Feng looked at Yu Dong’s habitual movements, his eyes flashing. He should probably do something to make Yu Dong realize that she’ll be sleeping somewhere else from now on.
Yu Dong went ahead and took a bath. Afterward, she simply put on a bathrobe sat on the table too hungry to properly dress.
Xia Feng soon placed a bowl of noodles in front of her and handed her some chopsticks. When he got close to her, Xia Feng noticed that Yu Dong didn’t properly dry her hair, a drop sliding down past her clavicle, into the depths of her robe.
Her face was looked pink and tender, and Xia Feng’s eyes darkened.
“Go and eat first, I’ll take a bath.” Xia Feng’s voice was a little hoarse as he said this.
“Un!” Yu Dong didn’t bother to raise her head, too busy inhaling the noodles.
Later, when Yu Dong was sitting on the sofa, hugging her full belly, she heard Xia Feng call out to her from the master bathroom.
“What’s wrong?” Yu Dong entered the bedroom to ask.
“My shampoo just ran out, can you please give me another bottle?” Xia Feng’s voice echoed again.
“Oh.” Yu Dong ran out, took a bottle of shampoo from a cupboard and hurridely entered Xia Feng’s room.
Standing outside the bathroom door, she knocked: “Open the door, I’ll pass it to you.
The bathroom door opened a crack.
Yu Dong didn’t think about it as she put her arm through the door to pass the shampoo to Xia Feng.
But unexpectedly Xia Feng didn’t take the shampoo, instead, he grabbed her arm and pulled her in.
By the time Yu Dong realized what had happened, she was already against the bathroom wall, her furry rabbit slippers wet.
Her bathrobe soon became wet too, clinging to her body.
She didn’t know when Xia Feng’s hand had slipped in her bathrobe, rubbing her smooth back.
“Xia Feng…” Yu Dong looked up, dazed.
“Hm?”
When Yu Dong saw Xia Feng’s eyes full of passion, her body instantly reacted.
Her loose bathrobe was opened, and as she was tightly pressed against the bathroom wall, Yu Dong couldn’t do anything but feel Xia Feng’s hot hand touching every inch of her body.
Yu Dong closed her eyes, but this only heightened her sensitivity.
At last, Xia Feng stopped and bit Yu Dong’s clavicle, before gently turning her body around.
Yu Dong instinctively placed both her hands against the wall. Before she could catch her breath, she felt Xia Feng’s hand wrap around her waist, lifting it slightly, the other hand reaching for a pink flower bud on her chest.
As her body was being picked apart, Yu Dong couldn’t help but moan.
Then came the attack of the storm, fierce, strong and unstoppable. Yu Dong’s hands squeezed against the walls, her soft lips occasionally letting a broken moan free.
When the clouds finally parted, the rain stopping, Xia Feng turned off the shower, the bathroom becoming quiet for a moment. Xia Feng held the limp Yu Dong, and the two leaned against the wall to bask in the afterglow.
After what seems like an eternity, Xia Feng started to rub Yu Dong’s arms before freezing: “I…I just forgot to put a condom on.”
Yu Dong didn’t open her eyes. Her legs were still like jelly, so she leaned against Xia Feng as she lazily asked: “Do you like children?”
“I do.”
“Then let’s have some.”
Xia Feng didn’t see Yu Dong’s expression as she said this. He gently picked her up and leaving the wet bathrobe on the floor, he put her in his bed.
The dark blue sheets contrasted against the white body. Such an alluring image made Xia Feng heat up again.
Feeling Xia Feng approach, Yu Dong opened her eyes, looking wronged.
Xia Feng sneaked a small peck on her lips and gave her a longing gaze.
Yu Dong blinked and took the initiative to wrap her arms around the man in front of her.
Xia Feng grasped Yu Dong’s ankle and placed it on his shoulder. The fierce attack that came soon after contrasted with Xia Feng’s gentle appearance. Yu Dong could only moan as the bed sheets became soaked with sweat.
Afterward, Xia Feng embraced Yu Dong. Looking at her tired and misty appearance, he couldn’t help but feel heartache and remorseful.
“Dong Dong.”
“Hm~~” Yu Dong hummed.
“Sleep here from now on.”
“OK.”
Xia Feng didn’t know if Yu Dong actually understood him. To make up for his lack of control, Xia Feng got up and took a hair dryer to dry Yu Dong’s hair.
When her hair was finally dray, Xia Feng brought Yu Dong back into his arms, before closing his eyes and burying his face against her neck.
Xia Feng never thought that he would one day crave someone so much. That he would feel like doing anything to obtain her. As if she was his entire world.
