Afterward, he sat down at Su Hongxing’s desk, crossed his long legs, and showed no intention of leaving.
“If you don’t go to work soon, you’re going to be late.” Su Hongxing couldn’t figure out what game Ye Qilan was playing.
It was Monday, the busiest day of the week, yet here he was, glued to her desk without a care.
“There’s nothing urgent at work. Going there would just be boring. I’d rather stay here, keep you company, and lend you a hand.” Ye Qilan said enthusiastically, “Do you have any tasks you need me to do?”
“I can help Mom, too!” Little Pudding chimed in, unwilling to be left out.
Su Hongxing looked at this troublesome father-daughter duo. “Can I ask the two of you to disappear?”
“No way!” Ye Qilan and Little Pudding replied in unison.
They high-fived each other for their perfect coordination.
Seeing their antics, Su Hongxing knew there was no way to get rid of them.
By the end of the morning, she didn’t have to lift a finger. Ye Qilan handled everything, while she just ate and drank at her leisure.
In the afternoon, she received a call from Jiang Su.
Jiang Su said that Xiao Ji had regained the ability to speak and wanted to see her. He asked when she could come to the hospital.
She glanced at Ye Qilan, who was watching her like a hawk, and suddenly understood why he was sticking to her like glue. He was monitoring her every move.
“I’ll head over in a bit,” Su Hongxing said as she hung up.
She walked up to Ye Qilan and said, “I need to go to the hospital later. Didn’t you say you’d help with my work? You can handle the remaining tasks for me, right?”
“I’ll take you there myself.” Ye Qilan turned to Qiao Qiao and said, “My wife’s work is now your responsibility. And Little Pudding, I’m counting on you to help keep an eye on her.”
“Ye Qilan, can you stop being like this…”
Before Su Hongxing could finish, Ye Qilan cut her off. “Nope! Let’s go. I’ll take you to the hospital.”
After all, the only reason he’d abandoned his work to stick by her side was to ensure Xiao Ji didn’t have a chance to steal her away.
His wife, of course, was someone he had to guard personally to feel at ease.
He walked to the door of the office but realized Su Hongxing wasn’t following.
He doubled back, grabbed her hand, and said, “Didn’t you say you were going to the hospital? If you don’t go now, it’ll be dark soon.”
Left with no choice, Su Hongxing had to go to the hospital with Ye Qilan.
When they entered the ward, Jiang Su was nowhere to be seen. Xiao Ji was leaning against the hospital bed, his expression dazed. His face looked haggard, though much better than yesterday.
“Amou…” At the sight of Su Hongxing, Xiao Ji’s eyes lit up.
Su Hongxing felt a sharp pain in her palm, as Ye Qilan suddenly tightened his grip on her hand.
“Why are you calling me that?” Su Hongxing asked in a low voice.
