Chapter 1182: Chapter 1182: Extra Story of the Eel 19

Su Man answered the phone, and Li Li’s voice immediately came through. Amid the deafening music, he was still shouting at the top of his lungs:

“Su Man! I’m dying here! That jerk Guo Wei puked all over me–get me a change of clothes, quick!”

Su Man replied irritably, “You’re hanging out with them, so borrow clothes from them!”

“Rubbish! I’m already wearing borrowed clothes! Remember Wu Xinghai? The party’s at his house, and his clothes are all gaudy, weird, and completely unsuitable for going out!”

Su Man was annoyed. After he shut her out this morning, now he wanted her to do favors for him? Fat chance.

She snorted coldly and said, “I’m not going! I’m watching a movie right now. Ask your mom to bring them over.”

“Watching a movie? What movie? I’ll watch it with you next time! Just come over, quick!” Li Li yelled on the other end, sounding genuinely desperate. “If my mom finds out, she’ll nag me to death! She’s already against me hanging out with Wu Xinghai and his crew. Su Man, good ol’ Manman, please save me! Twenty years of friendship–are you really going to let me perish here?!”

His shouting made Su Man’s scalp tingle, especially since Lu Yuwen was sitting nearby–she felt truly awkward.

She bit her lip, covered the phone, and said reluctantly, “Fine, stop yelling… You, uh, just hang on for a bit. I’ll come over soon.”

Li Li: “What? It’s too noisy here–I can’t hear you! Speak up! Usually, you’re ferocious when we argue, but now you’re acting like a little princess? Who are you being all ladylike for?”

Su Man instantly flared up, raised her voice, and roared: “I said I’ll be there soon! Stop rushing me!!”

“OK~ Hurry up! I’m waiting!”

Li Li, satisfied, hung up the phone.

Su Man: “…”

She stared silently for a moment, then lifted her head to glance at Lu Yuwen and sheepishly set her phone down.

The movie had already been paused by Lu Yuwen when she first picked up the call. Now, the room was unbearably quiet.

The silence made the straightforward words she ought to say shrink back awkwardly: “I… Uh, I need to head out for a bit. Got to deliver some clothes to a friend.”

Uncomfortably, she glanced at the TV screen. “Guess we’ll have to finish it next time…”

“It’s fine,” Lu Yuwen said gently, rising from the sofa. “There’s not much left, anyway. Anytime you want to watch, we can continue. You should go to your friend–he must be in a rush.”

He drew open the curtains, letting light flood the living room.

Su Man grabbed her car keys and bag, heading toward the entryway to change her shoes.

Lu Yuwen asked, “Do you have his clothes with you?”

“I’ll get them from his place–he lives next door.” Su Man bent over to adjust her heels, her hair swaying slightly with the motion. “That guy is always careless like this. I’ve helped him deliver stuff plenty of times. His parents know me well–I’ll just make up some excuse…”

She slipped her shoes on and waved toward Lu Yuwen. “I’m off now.”

Lu Yuwen: “Mm, be careful on the way.”

Su Man opened the door and stepped out but inexplicably paused after taking just two steps. Turning back, she looked at Lu Yuwen hesitantly before saying, “Thanks for everything today.”

Lu Yuwen: “Hmm?”

She flashed a bright smile. “Thanks for chatting with me and watching the movie with me–I’m feeling a lot better now.”

Lu Yuwen smiled in return. “Mn, me too.”

Su Man froze for a moment. “Huh?”

“I’m in a good mood too,” Lu Yuwen said warmly, his gaze filled with gentle light. “I’m really glad we got to chat and watch the movie together.”

Su Man stared at him in a daze.

Two seconds later, she realized she was zoning out again and quickly snapped her gaze away, covering her face with one hand as she rushed off.

Her face felt impossibly hot, as though she were holding a freshly boiled egg, and she couldn’t quite understand what was happening to her.

She was used to roughhousing with Li Li, and most of the men she interacted with either knew her background or respected her abilities, keeping her at arm’s length. This was… perhaps the first time.

The first time she’d been looked at with that sort of gaze by a man.

It was a feeling difficult to describe–like being admired, being noticed, being… cherished.
