- Chapter 33: Assistant Hired in the Washroom
Lu Maner’s face turned pale as she did not think Ye Qiaofeng was bold enough to say such things. Then, she glared at An Wen with a murderous expression.
An innocent expression washed over An Wen’s face as she thought to herself, ‘Why are you glaring at me like that? Ah, so this is my fault again. You can’t blame my enchanting beauty for your offensive behavior!’
Xia Wei, who noticed An Wen’s expression, could not resist but spit out his water. He tugged his arm at Cheng Hanwen and blurted, “Lil Sis An’s hilarious. Hahahaha…”
‘How can he laugh at my misery? I think he’s not quite right in the head1.’ An Wen was speechless at her friend’s reaction.
Ye Qiaofeng had been pulled aside by Assistant Director Zhang for a discussion. He was a little calmer when he returned a few moments later but his brows were still knitted together. “Let’s do this again and be professional. Clear your mind of silly thoughts!”
Lu Maner did not dare to create trouble after the initial harsh reproach from Ye Qiaofeng. However, she needed some time to readjust her mental state and had to take a few tries to get the scene right.

The hatred she had for An Wen only grew stronger. After the incident that had happened earlier, An Wen intentionally stayed away from Lu Maner at any given chance as she had made her mind up that the latter was certainly a madwoman.
Lu Maner was fueled by irritation due to the failure at exacting revenge against An Wen. So, she directed her anger and exasperation towards some assisting actress.
An Wen heard the sobbing as soon as she opened the door to the washroom. The crying was so distressing that An Wen had to restrain herself from making too much noise in order not to disturb the other person.
The door to the other cubicle was also pushed open when An Wen exited hers. That poor girl had tears swelling in her puffy eyes. An Wen felt sorry by just looking at her.
As they were washing their hands, Jiang Shiyu whimpered in between sobs, “An Wen, I was fired today because of you.”
An Wen was taken aback and did not know what to say.
……
“Lu Maner was furious at you and directed her frustration at Xiaoyu. After that, Xiaoyu blamed me for not stopping Lu Maner and had me fired.”
An Wen was still at a loss for words.
“I’ve only just graduated and rented a place to stay, but I no longer have a job now. Life is going to be miserable…”
“Are you telling me these so I can do you justice?” asked An Wen.
Jiang Shiyu shook her head and replied sadly, “I just feel like I’ve been wronged.”
“There’s nothing to feel sorry about. You can’t make progress by clinging to the past. I just so happen to be looking for an assistant. The job pays 4000 and bonuses are available depending on my mood. Do you want to take it?”
Instinctively, Jiang Shiyu wanted to retaliate as she thought the affluent girl would not understand the struggle of a penniless fresh graduate. However, she was left speechless when An Wen finished speaking.
“Huh?” she could not believe what she had heard.
“What’s your name and where do you live?” questioned An Wen.
“Are you sure you want to hire me? I literally just got fired,” Jiang Shiyu asked in surprise.
“It’s better to have an assistant than none,” she admitted.
Jiang Shiyu did not know how to respond. It was her first time being interviewed in the washroom!
“My name is Jiang Shiyu and I graduated from Yuncheng University of Technology…” She started introducing herself as if she was in a formal job interview.
However, An Wen shook her head. “There’s no need for that. You’ll start right away,” she simply said.
Jiang Shiyu trailed An Wen out of the washroom.
‘Mom, you’ll never believe this… I just got hired in the washroom.’ Jiang Shiyu thought she was in a dream.
The rest of the crew noticed that once out of the washroom, An Wen was constantly shadowed by a young girl. The little figure busied herself with tasks like finding An Wen a chair or making sure she was hydrated… She behaved like a proper assistant.
Jiang Shiyu was great at her job and she did manage to get An Wen a chair. The latter leaned back in her seat comfortably as she read her script. She even had a drink in her hand. An Wen could not help but exclaim, “It’s amazing to have an assistant.”
It took Lu Maner no effort to recognize Jiang Shiyu. She pretended to walk past An Wen and mocked, “An Wen, I didn’t know you liked to shop second-hand.”
An Wen shook her finger as she retorted, “Aunty, you’re wrong. You’re the one that threw away something precious. It’s really silly of you to mock me for my newfound gold.”
